SPU vs Kelmscott Roos
Goals: Wardy (1) Brett (1)
Best on ground: Gia, Justin
A fairly flat game against average opposition, luckily we managed to show
flashes of intelligence utilising our passing game which turned out
to be the difference in the end. Most would agree that the majority of
play left a lot to be desired. That being said there were some good
passages of play down both wings with Gia and Richo linking up on the left and
Declan and Wardy on the right. Our first half pressure in front of goal was
good and we probably broke a world record for the highest number
of corners in one half without managing to score despite a
number of good opportunities. Wardy made a come-back from his
nuptials to chip in with a goal about a minute after the half time break,
followed by an unselfish display passing a nice ball across the face for Brett
to slot into an open goal. More corners followed in the second half, im told by
lads closer to the action that Brett was robbed of his classic header. A Roos
player latter confessed to a Harry Kewell style effort in front of goal and
possibly behind the line, unfortunately this confession was made while moving
towards the car park at speed.
The Roos forwards showed a bit of life in the second half slotting a good goal
from 25 yards on the left wing catching Craig off his line, luckily they didn't make a habit of it. 'Yellow boots' and Wardys little friend covered alot of
ground but failed to make an impression. In the end we held on for a 2-1 win.
Special mention to Justin for providing good cover in defence and thanks
to Craig for putting on the gloves for the ressies. Also thanks to John for
umpiring. Mark O (VC) |
