Our goal difference boosting game against a win-less Curtin
almost turned into a nightmare this weekend as they managed to slip two goals
past us in the first 20 minutes and hold on for grim death for most of the
game. The game started predictably with Brett quickly getting on the end of one
and putting it in the back of the net, we all took this as a sign of things to
come and started licking our lips and dreaming about how many goals it was
possible to score in a game limited to 90 minutes. However minutes later a good
through ball for Curtin set up their striker and a miss kick fooled goal keeper
Banksy as the ball trickled in off the post to level the scores.
Another quick one from Curtin saw us looking at a 1-2
deficit for pretty much the remainder of the match, we couldn’t buy a goal
until the last 10-15 mins when a hand ball penalty handed Graham an
opportunity, fortunately some good ball control allowed him to collect his own
rebound and bang it home, 2-2, game on.
Again we battled to seize the final elusive goal as Curtin
hung on for dear life and hoofed the ball away at every opportunity. Finally it
came from a great cross (apologies, I’m not sure who was responsible) to the
head of Clyde who got some impressive hang-time and steered the ball into the
net to seal the deal at 3-2. A lucky escape for us, but we can take away that
we fought tooth and nail for the entire game and didn’t lose our heads.
